Why is it
This is the virgin/whore dichotomy in action, folks. And don't kid yourself, this isn't funny -- it's misogyny through and through.
This double standard is deeply entangled in the overall sexual dynamics between men and women which are, to say the least, complicated.
One guy I remember going around giving talks about this at Stanford liked to point out that it is even possible for women to experience a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation in that being overly virginal could lead to being labelled "frigid" or regarded as a "bitch", etc.
In fairness I think it should also be pointed out that a 16-year-old boy who impregnated a 16-year-old girl would not exactly be regarded as a hero.
